internetRadio

Page history last edited by Vasile 15 years ago

Internet radio playing is now integrated in the standard MG35 user interface, via text files having the .url file extension.

If you just want to try the internet radio, create a text file named e.g. "MyRadioStation.url" and in it write one line specifying the URL to play, e.g.

http://shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=34747&file=filename.pls

Then, put the MG-35 in "music" mode, navigate to your .url file and press Play. If you use DHCP to get your IP address, you will hear music. But if you use a fixed IP address you will not be able to play internet radio unless you manually define the network gateway (you can have it automattically set at boot time in init.rc):

#copy config files
cp /usr/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf

#add default gw, use your own IP instead of 192.168.0.1
route add default gw 192.168.0.1 eth0

resolv.conf may have the following content (this will use openDNS, but you can use your ISP's DNS server):

nameserver 208.67.222.222

For your convenience, John has prepared a large list of URL's with playable content. Just unzip and untar the file on your MG35 box, and you'll get a lot of .url files for your acoustical pleasure :-)
